There are many career options in the radio industry varying from a radio jockey to a producer. Some of them are Music managers, advertising, sales, marketing, finance, etc. Radio broadcasting is also a very flourishing career in today's era.

This job requires only determination and hard work. The job includes producing your own radio show, editing and writing your own scripts and marketing techniques on how to increase the number of listeners. The responsibilities vary with the post. The manager is responsible for managing a station irrespective of it being online or offline. An audio engineer will look after the sound production and its technical aspects. The producer manages shows in a station and looks after the songs to be played during each show. The RJ is responsible for communicating with listeners and play songs in an attractive way.

There are many educational courses associated with this field. There are many media and communication courses that teach broadcasting, audio engineering and other fields specifically; but still, there are some jobs like RJ that does not require any formal education qualification and only skills are required. Jobs like audio engineering require lots of knowledge.



A manager should have skills like good person managing capabilities. He should also be a responsible and good decision maker. A producer should have good knowledge of radio industry as he will decide the programs to be played in radio. An audio engineer should have good technical knowledge of the audio systems being used. A RJ should have excellent communication skills, presence of mind, and creativity in his actions.

Different amount of time for training is required in different fields. An audio engineer usually requires three years of training while a RJ only requires two months of training provided he is provided with the required skill set. A manager usually comes his way up from smaller stations and so he does not require to be trained. A manager and producer are usually experienced as it becomes almost impossible to work when inexperienced in this post. A sound engineer does not usually have experience on other aspects of the industry. Renowned stations usually prefer a radio jockey having 2-3 years of experience.

The radio is a vast industry and is currently flourishing as a city develops. More and more new private firms are coming up in this industry. Already existing FM stations are also expanding their network in great speed. Salaries in this industry vary drastically with post. An audio engineer earns around $30,000 annually while the producer salary for the graduate goes as high as $60,000. The earnings of a manager of the station are around $65,000 to $70,000 per year. The salary of a radio jockey highly depends on his experience. His starting salary may be as low as $2,000 and can reach a high of $20,000 annually.

The industry usually seeks youngsters having some experience. The reason for this is that the youngsters are usually creative and can help the industry flourish with their new and innovative ideas. They also are very ambitious and hard working.
